Sarah Kennedy will be playing with Nick Peck on Sunday May 13th at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver.  The theme is flowers and Mother’s Day.  Sarah has selected some beautiful ballads as well as some original compositions using the poetry of Hafiz to celebrate this day.

The Unitarian Church of Vancouver is a mutli-faith community.  People of all backgrounds and spiritual journeys are welcome to explore their life path.  The church sanctuary has lovely acoustics and artwork displayed.  This promises to be a beautiful event giving recognition of the important role of nurturing mother figures in our lives.

Tanya Tagaq is a contemporary throat singer.  As she tours internationally Tanya is often backed by a choir.  The Element Choir is an improvising choir project, developed by Christine Duncan and Jean Martin, and conducted by Christine Duncan.  Singers are recruited to participate in the choir for the show and create improvised sounds based on a specific series of hand signals.  Sarah is delighted to be participating in the upcoming performance at the Vogue Theatre on May 12th.  See the Vogue Theatre Website for tickets.

Sarah Kennedy is returning to Frankie’s for another night as the notoriously cute, Blossom Dearie.  You will be delighted and surprised at the accuracy of Sarah’s Blossom impression: you’re allowed to giggle.  Blossom Dearie was a Brooklyn born jazz singer, pianist and composer, who became famous for a girlish and mousy voice as well as a unique sense of time and phrasing. Sarah Kennedy is currently working on a project to set some of the poetry of Hafiz to music.  Hafiz was a Sufi master estimated to have written 5,000 poems.  His work is described as “ecstatic love songs from God to his beloved world.”  Sarah and Dan Reynolds (piano) will play music interspersed throughout a service including a homily from Brian Fraser.

An all original band that explores a myriad of music styles, eras and cultures in the music they write and perform with class, sass and lot’s of energy. Lots of influences like Cole Porter, Joao Gilberto, Antoni Carlos Jobim, Harry Belafonte, Les Paul and Mary Ford, Django Reinhardt, Kurt Weil, Johnny Cash, etc etc. Their original songs rivalling jazz standards of the past and pop hits of today, the band’s sound exudes a familiar simplicity while drawing the more experienced ear towards their unique arrangements.

Writing tunes meant to be catchy, danceable, and seamlessly multi-genre in basis, these high calibre musicians bring light to any stage and movement to any audience. Executed with poise, class, professionalism and a lot of sass, the music of the Colorifics is a welcome refreshment for the musical soul.

Sarah Kennedy will be doing her Joni Mitchell and Charles Mingus tribute show at the 2016 TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival. This show was sold out with a double encore at Frankie’s Jazz Club in December 2015 so don’t miss seeing it for free on July 3rd!  The show was inspired by the lyrical and compositional genius of the collaborative album “Mingus,” the melding of poetic folk music and avant-garde jazz at its finest.   A rare opportunity to hear this complex music reinterpreted for an intimate setting, this show will cover the entire “Mingus” album as well as other pieces from Joni’s and Mingus’ lifeworks.  Come expecting your listening experience to be both heavy and humorous; disturbing and peaceful; ferocious and tender.

Sarah Kennedy and Giovani Goulart will be performing at The Roedde House Museum on Thursday February 11th.

Giovani is a pianist, percussionist, and composer who has recently relocated to Vancouver from Brazil, bringing with him a wealth of experience as a recording and performing artist. He has arranged, produced and recorded many musical projects in Brazil, Germany and Portugal.

They will play a variety of Brazilian compositions including tunes by Tania Maria, Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Tom Jobim and more. Come along for a lovely evening of entertainment with this exquisite duo.

It’s finally here!  Sarah Kennedy will be releasing her first album, “Portrait” produced by the legendary Jennifer Scott.  The album is includes lesser known pieces by Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Guy Wood and more.  It represents Sarah’s vocal repertoire explorations to date and marks a milestone in her development as a performing artist.   This evening Sarah is joined by (almost) all of the players from her album to give you two sets of acoustic bliss.  The band will perform two sets to cover the album as well as some other surprise additions.

Sarah will be performing as a guest vocalist with NovaSol at the 2015 Harmony Arts Festival.   NovaSol blends bossa and soul grooves over a variety of covers and original tunes.  Nova Sol is a jazz group influenced by Brazilian music.  The band brings on a bossa nova/samba rhythm and adds a touch of R&B soul for a unique sound.  This year’s line up will feature vocalist Sarah Kennedy who will be singing in Spanish, Portuguese and English.  Sarah displays a freedom of emotional expression in her lyrical interpretations, leaving the listener refreshed by her soulful sincerity.  Sarah Kennedy is a guest vocalist and will be joining Novasol for an appearance at this exciting festival in Ambleside.  We will be performing on the Millenium Stage. Jazz vocalist, Sarah Kennedy, from Vancouver, Canada performs with a smooth, sultry voice and a polished elegance that will leave your ears unequivocally gratified. Since her arrival in Europe she has made an impression as a refreshingly accomplished performer at many of London’s jam sessions and she has also performed in France and Germany. She is known to deliver an intriguing and challenging repertoire with beautiful lyrical interpretation and soulful sincerity. Her recent projects have included the music of Joni Mitchell, Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk as well as bossa novas (performed in Portuguese) and classic jazz standards. To perform this eclectic repertoire Sarah has gathered a killer band. When you leave you’ll be anticipating the release of Sarah’s début album, “Portrait,” available in Spring 2015.

The Vancouver Unitarian Centre is a lovely venue with high ceilings, hardwood flooring, engraved copper fixtures and walls lined with artwork.  The music will be interspersed throughout a service where the youth of the community share there hopes and concerns for the future of our planet.  Coffee is available before and after the service.  Absolutely no charge.

The show was inspired by the lyrical and compositional genius of the collaborative album “Mingus,” the melding of poetic folk music and avant-garde jazz at its finest. A rare opportunity to hear this complex music reinterpreted for an intimate setting, the show will cover the entire “Mingus” album as well as other pieces from Joni’s and Mingus’ lifeworks. Come expecting your listening experience to be both heavy and humorous; disturbing and peaceful; ferocious and tender.
